appearance: Golden-honey, slightly clear and creamy with a hint of carbonation. Quick light head.

smell: Malty, sweet with slight hint of damp fur.

taste: Spicey malt with a quick finish. A touch of sweetness, clove, butterscotch and ends with malt.

mouthfeel: Pleasant and slightly chewy.

drinkability: This is a great new pilsner that I'm looking forward to enjoying in the wamer months. The spiciness sets it apart from other pilsners I've had. Well done!

Grabbed this one out the fridge this afternoon to make room and to have something light to drink this afternoon. Consumed on 12/27/2009.

The pour was about what I would expect from the style. Light golden in color with a huge white head that faded out quickly but left a decent amount of lace down the sides of the glass. Aroma is very light. Lots of grain notes are evident from the very start. Light notes of banana, and hints of light grasy hops are now bouncing around as well, but nothing really crazy. Crisp, clean, and smooth flavor. Light grains, bready notes, hint of clove and a bit of light fruit. Put together quite well with high carbonation and a very light body. So sessionable and it goes down like water.

Overall a solid representation of the style and a light, clean and crisp drinker that I would have no issue at all with going after again.

I was intrigued to be able to try this beer on tap at The Verdugo Bar in Glassel Park, CA. I was told that it is brewed using a lot of simcoe hops, and that is certainly plus for me as I always enjoy simcoe. The usual pilsner nose and taste were present along with a pleasant mild tobacco note. I found this to be a mild and drinkable plisner, which is a revelation for me since I am not a big fan of the style.

Clear Golden colored lager with a good tall white head, doesn't last though.

Neutral Pilsner malt scent and fresh Nobel Hops, not all that spicy though. Mostly this is Herbal, grassy and slightly soapy smelling.

Taste is faintly sweet with a slight caramel and nut flavor. Fairly strong Nobel Hop Flavor and stoutly bitter but not to strong. Faint sherry flavor, mostly nuts.

Mouthfeel is OK.

Good mass quantities drinkability kind of beer. Nothing special but competent and locally made.

On tap at Spike's in SLO:

Poured a darker golden hue, 1 inch foam. Foam slowly dissipated through consumption. Fairly tight bubbles, but missing a bit of that classical pilsner head. Smells grassy, hay, malty - pleasant. Tastes a bit warm (as far as serving temperature) but this helps to get all aromas & flavors. Quite hoppy, but not overdone - a certain sweetness is present. An extremely appealing bitterness on the palate which does not persist longer than it should. Tastes a bit stronger than 5% ABV and is really malt-oriented. This is missing a bit of "clean & crisp" which one tends to get from most german lagers, but the beer is appealing for other reasons. Mouthfeel is nice, perfect CO2 level. No off-flavors to inhibit consumption or distract from this brew.

Overall: very drinkable session beer. I think I may have enjoyed it more if it were colder and slowly warmed. I think that I have finally found a local pilsner that I really enjoy.

314th review on BA
bottle to pilsner glass
12 oz

* Took three attempts to get this drinkable, 1st pour all foam in the glass, after a dump of the glass, the 2nd pour was about 3/4 foam. 3rd pour finally worked.*

App- Semi-clear watered down yellow. Huge three finger head with large spotted lacing.

Smell- Very nice, crisp. A tad bit hoppy and a semi sweet almost yeasty smell.

Drink- For not knowing if this was fresh it was pretty good. Had a certain soda fountain carb-water taste but was pretty drinkable. **EDIT** Thanks Doug for a fresh bottle. The taste was much better this time, more crisp, spot on pils.

Mouth- Light bodied with a high carb level. Little bit of a hoppy after taste.

Drink- It was so-so. The soda fountain like carbed-water really got to me. **EDIT** The second bottle from Doug, was much better the second go round. More refreshing, not a tastebud killer either.

Got this as an extra from EinWeizenbitte - thanks, man!

Pours a cloudy golden with a quick, white foamy head.

Smells of lager yeasts and a milk house (sorry, that's what I got!)

Good taste, very dry and solid example of a German lager. Slightly bitter finish.

Nice example for it's style! Full flavored lager, high carbonation and crisp.

On-tap at Blue Palms, on to the beer:

Straw gold just like any other pilsner with a small soapy head on top. Aroma is mild, grape hops and hay made up that aspect. Flavor is pretty intense for a pils. I had just consumed a draft of Prima Pils an hour before, and this is similar to it. Intense grassy hops. Bittersweet hay flavors. Maltiness is doughy and astringent. But the grassy flavors dominate in this beer. A very tasty pilsner, but be aware this is not for the faint of heart.

Thanks to barleywinefiend for throwing this in as an extra.

A - Slightly hazy golden, straw color with 2 fingers of white head and bubbly carbonation rising to the top.

S - Grassy, lemony, herbal hops with grainy malts.

T - Lemon and herbal hops with a very grainy maltiness. Sweet with a touch of honey yet dry at the same time. A bit soapy at first but that settles to a lager yeast type flavor.

M - Light body with high carbonation and a very dry finish.

D - A decent German Pils but not as hoppy as some of my favorites in the style.

Got this on-tap at Laguna Grill in SLO. Got it on-tap again at Spike's. Below is a combo of the reviews.

Appearance: Clear honey-gold body with a creamy 1-finger, white head. Head is pretty damn sticky and actually drags some lacing behind it. A very active carbonation feeds the head throughout the session, providing fantastic retention! I'm not really a pilsener man, but this looks damn good.

Smell: Horse blanket, straw, herbs and grainy malts.

Taste: Grainy malts, honey, lager yeast, grass, and a touch of sugar. Somewhat sour, somewhat sweet. I like.

Mouthfeel: Light-bodied and creamy with a pretty high carbonation. Light chewiness. Dry finish.

Drinkability: Haven't had a whole lot of pilseners (good ones anyway), but this one was pretty good. Nice work Doug!

Picked up the sixer from Oak Knoll Liquor in SM.
Poured a nice golden color, lots of bubbles, good carbonation. Nose was pretty strong, grainy, hoppy and malty. Taste was boozier and more hop forward than pilsners. It had a bit of floral notes in there that i did not catch the first try. Mouthfeel was smooth, malty and grainy. A good sipping beer by Doug at Einhorn!
Got the last sixer from Liquor Emp in Lompoc and still tasty. Even better than the previous review.

Given as an extra in a trade with EinWeizenbitte, thanks dude.

Pours a clear gold with 2 fingers of foamy white head, OK retention and some lacing. Smells of floral hops, grain, Pilsner malt, orange blossom, and honey. Tastes of orange and lemon rind followed by honey, toasted grain, and some grassy notes with a touch of spice. Medium in body with nice carbonation. A little syrupy at times, but good and sweet with a nice bitter touch. Very clean and crisp, easy to drink.

12 oz. bottle, brewed in El Monte, CA,

A: Pours a hazy, cloudy gold with a soft white head, not good clarity for the style.

S: More malty on the nose than hoppy, cereal, sourdough bread.

T: Quite a hoppy pils with hay and grass dominating. Malt is of husky cereal and white bread, note of orange as well.

M: Nice and crisp, light-bodied, smooth, not as clean as I'd like in this style.

D: All around a solid pilsner, and another well made CA lager, my first beer from Einhorn, quite enjoyable on a summer's afternoon.

Picked this up on the road in San Luis. Good to see that college town has a good brewery so close, maybe the rugby team could sport this at the next after party and not bud light...but that was a lifetime ago and I need to get over that and the but-chugs.
The beer is a clear golden, and pours with a creamy head, that's at least what the bottle says.
This beer was solid, and a very good version of a german pilsner produced locally. I liked the big husky, breathy hop notes.
This is drinkable, but drink it quick. I let a few sit and they got nasty.

12oz bottle. Hazier dull gold color than you would expect for a pils, with a thin head that doesn't last very long. The aroma is a pleasant mix of sweet, honey-tinged malt, and floral and spicy hops. The flavor has lightly sweet pale malt that has a little bread character, balanced by medium grassy and herbal hop bitterness. Throw in a hint of lemon as well, but not the acidity. There is also a light fruitiness and an almost yeasty doughy quality. The body is on the light side, but maintains a nice texture. This has a good deal of character for a pils, without being over-hopped like many American takes on the German style. This just has an easy-drinking balance with a pleasing bitterness in the finish.
