This is the latest in Big Al's series of brews based on recipes by local homebrewers, hence the Local Hero moniker. Served in straight pint glass. Poured a dark brown with a slight reddish tint. The beer had an inch of khaki colored head that quickly dissipated and left just a trace of lacing.
The aromas were a little subdued for the style, the bold peatiness that people either love or hate is missing. The flavor profile also is softer than expected, a little more sweet than a lot of Scotch Ales, and softer flavoring are the features of this well balanced beer.
The body was good, it didn't have that stickyness that leads to palate fatigue. This was one of the more drinkable examples I've had, I could have 2-3 in a row before needing to switch. Overall, a solid, but unspectacular brew. Worth trying if you see it.
