On tap in a pint glass at Unicorn in Seattle on 11/12/11

Deep, browned amber. Lightly cloudy. 1/3rd inch head leaves a thin layer. Large, sporadically drawn layers of lace.

Aromas of candy floral sweetness, earth, grainy bread and a touch of caramel sweetness. Tastes similar though it has an prominent herbal flair. Some earth and bitterness. Faint orange peel. Ample, bready malt backdrop. A bit granular and mostly dry. Medium body with average carbonation; no fuss here.

Overall impression - I'm thinking this might work better as a pale ale.

served on-tap @ The Alcove, Tuscaloosa, AL, into a mason jar

Pours a burnt orange color that reminds me of a maltier East Coast IPA. Nice, creamy off-white head of over a finger in size. Nothing special but it looks nice.

I wish that I could see my face when I first smelled this beer. A huge hit of caramel malt comes first with absolutely no hops behind it. But that's not the surprising part. The surprising part is the sourness. Like lemonade. Caramel malt and no hop character at all. Weeeird.

The sour character is pretty strong on the palate. I think there might be some bacterial infection going on? Maybe the taplines have something in them? It isn't immediately obvious. This could just be poorly brewed. This tastes like a cider mixed with an abundance of old caramel malt. It isn't THAT terrible, but it is a most terrible IPA.

The mouthfeel is pretty average. It's maybe a bit thicker than I prefer, but nothing offensive. Overall, this is awful stuff. I'm hoping that it is an infection of some kind, because the beer that I drank doesn't at all mesh with the other reviews it has.

I had this on tap at the Alcove Tavern in Tuscaloosa, AL last week. The appearance, smell, and taste were average. The hoppy flavor was not over the top, which made it very drinkable for me. I ended up drinking three pints of it and would definitely have it again if it is offered.

Cloudy grapefruit colour, generous off-white head. Thick Lace lines. Tad above Average mouthfeel. Big IBU felt, hops are almost astringent, as hop heads will appreciate this delivery system. Fair for its style, but a decent drinker if you like the above characteristics.

Served in straight pint glass. Poured a pleasant coppery-orange color with about an inch of just off-white head that had decent retention and good lacing.

A nice piney hop aroma greets the nose, with some floral hops in the background, and just hint of maltiness. The flavor starts out very similar, but there is a hit of citrus hops at the back of the tongue that I didn't pick up in the nose.

The body is good, fuller than some examples of the style, but I bit thinner than I like. Drinkability is really good, if like to drink several hoppy, sticky IPAs in a row.

Overall, an above average example of the style, worth seeking out.
