7-2-16 - On tap at Kedai Makan in Seattle, WA. This was the only IPA they had on tap. One and done.

My first IPA in about 10 days so I may be rating a little higher than normal. Nice copper color with a great head and lacing. It had really nice hop aroma with citrus and pine notes. In the mouth it was hoppy but balanced with some nice malts. The hops shine here however and they kept me coming back for more. A nice hoppy bitter finish sealed the deal. A pleasant surprise from Big Al Brewing.

I had this beer on-tap in a pint glass at the brewery.
Appearance: medium orange with a light haze and a finger of frothy ivory foam. Not bad at all!
Smell: fruity, citrusy hop aroma not unlike coriander, atop a thick, sweet malt base. Quite enticing indeed.
Taste: sweet malt with good, fruity hops and a strong but smooth bitterness. Not too bad, if not quite as enticing as the aroma.
Mouthfeel: medium body with a decent carbonation and creaminess for the style.
Overall: not a bad beer. Maybe a dash on the sweet side, but a decent IPA.

Handsome orange amber color in the big goblet with plenty of foam. Spritzy on the tongue. Then there's that WTF new car smell and something like kimchee. Then it's obvious the flavor is going to a cheesy, cardboard graininess with the sweet 'n' sour thing going on. And finally, that icky plastic bitterness takes over. It's still apparent that there was a good hop flavor here, but it's moved out.
Ironically, I was just reading the BA thread, "Does American craft brewing have a quality problem?" Well, here's a case in point. I don't think I've ever had an IPA that was really off. It seems to be a problem with Doppelbocks and other brews with lots of residual sugar.
I review this as a warning to others. Undrinkable. From the 22 oz bottle purchased today at Central Market in Seattle.

Pours a bronze copper color with a small white head. Not a real strong hoppy aroma. Citrus notes. Taste is balanced and pleasant but the hops are light for an American IPA. I think the label and advertising is misleading. Body is smooth and creamy with medium carbonation. I think this beer would be a great gateway IPA for someone who doesn't like IPA's or alot of hops in general.

P - 1 Pint, 6 FL OZ. bottle into tulip glass.
A - Pours clean 'filtered', copper/orange color with a nice white head...- some good lacing.
S - Hops and lots of sweet citrus - some orange & grapefruit tones...
T - Hmmm...good start with A great hop kick at the top, followed by a dry ending...boring...
M - Carbonation is OK, with medium fullness. Present, but not 'too' much fruity/sweet flavors...The final pine/spice...relatively balanced, but the dry end is a bummer...
O - I had higher hopes living in the seattle area...this one has had 'hype'...Being a 'fan,' of big ipas, i was a little let down '. Bottom line, I'm glad I got a 22.oz instead of a 6 pk.
