Served in tulip. Poured a semi-hazy dark reddish amber, bordering on a light mahogany, with 3/4 of an inch of light tan head that had low retention and lacing.
The aroma started out with sweet malts up front, with a noticeable bit of alcohol right behind it, and some spice and yeast backing things up. A fairly typical Barleywine scent, in other words. On the tongue the story is the same, a pretty typical tasting Barleywine. Good base malts, a definite hot alcohol taste, and a bit of yeasty spice in the background.
The body was, again, typical for the style, but perhaps a bit thin for my preferences. Drinkability was very nice, the beer went down easily, once you adapted to that alcohol hotness. Overall, a nice, but average, example of the style. Worth trying when you see it.

A: Poured a ruddy orangish color with a white cap and some good lacing leftover after a few minutes
S: Yeasty with some bread and candy sweetness on the nose
T: A nice blast of candy sugar, some bread with a unique flavor I can describe as almonds, some light residual sugar
M: Medium to bog body with a nice sticky and light booziness
O: Very good. I am usually not a Big Al fan but they nailed this. Tasty and easy to drink.
