the gent that brews the beers at the scottish chief (gavin gamble) was also a brewer at bells in south melbourne for some time. he also provided the recipe for mountain goats hightail ale. here hes brewed a pale ale that is best drank in conjunction with others. its a little strange on its own. (and i dont mean mixed together in the same glass lol)
cloudy light golden color with a frothy white head that has good retention. smell very bizarre. aroma was a mixture of malt and grapeseed oil. similar taste, with some citrus tang and a very nice hop bitterness than counteracted the strange smell/taste. i didnt find it offensive to the palate, but there are plenty who would. went down quite nicely, but i just cant help but think the grapeseedy element to the beer would lead to many low ratings, especially among aussies. overall i felt it was a nice tidy drinker with a unique touch that many beer here lack.
they have better brews than this, but i still dont mind chugging down one or two given the chance. you can certainly do far worse in these parts. better when consumed along with others in a session.
