It look me a long time to get my hands on one of Abadessa's seasonal/special release beers. With a year round selection that is already impressive, my expectations are set very high. Coming out of a 500 ml bottle, on to the beer:
Sparkling toasted yellow with a plash of orange. The foam sits ½ inch thick and leaves excellent retention and retains very well. Aroma-wise, it doesn't wow me as much as I would have expected. It is still good, don't get me wrong. That spiced bubblegum and dab of bread are nothin to be ashamed of.
While the taste doesn't grab your palate by the horns, it does offer a plesant journey of bubblegum, doses of lemon, and a little spicy clove. It's reasonably balanced, and not over the top in one of those notes. The body is light and fluffy, and it is easy to drink.
I knew Abadessa could make good lagers, but could they make good ales too? Well, this is a pleasant hefeweizen, maybe not up to my high expectations, however it is a reasonable choice if you come across it.
