Had this on draft at the Boxing Cat Brewery in Shanghai, China on 1/10/15.

This is an Imperial / Double Porter, 10.5% ABV, 40 IBU, limited release beer that is modeled after Creme Brûlée dessert. Flavors of vanilla, chocolate, caramel and coconut are apparent.

I was very happy to be here at the right time to try this brew.

Growler filled on 1/28/15, drank on 1/29/15

Not sure why it wouldn't let me add notes when I added the beer...

Imperial Porter brewed with (I believe - can't find a commercial description online and I had a few too many at the brewery last night to remember) coconut, cocoa nibs, coffee, and a lot of vanilla beans - the description of the beer says that it is supposed to be reminiscent of a creme brulee and it almost succeeds in this.

Probably one of the best Shanghai brewed beers I've had here in China.

Appears a dark brown, not quite black as there is some light permeation. Pours with a decent head that dies down fairly quickly to a thin layer of white bubbles.

Reminds me a bit of ST Creme Brulee to an extent, though with a much lighter body. 10.5% is decently hidden, but alcohol is apparent.

Smells like count chocula cereal. Pretty awesome. The beer only slightly disappoints considering this smell.

The taste is strong with vanilla, coconut and a strong caramel sweetness, with semisweet chocolate and some coffee undertones. Hop presence seems a little to strong for the style and a bit out of place in my opinion, but the hops mellow and the flavors become more well blended and balanced as the beer warms.

My only other gripe is the mouthfeel of this beer. For the ABV and style, I was expecting, and still hoping for (as I drink a growler of the stuff), a thicker mouth feel. This is by far the most disappointing aspect of the beer (though, I'm really just nitpicking). The flavor profile, I feel would really benefit from a thicker mouth feel as well (it has literally everything I look for in this type of beer except for a nice thickness to it).

A really outstanding beer, especially considering other beers brewed by Shanghai breweries.

Overall rating may be biased considering overall quality of beer available in China, though this is really tasty.
