On-tap at the brewpub.
Pours black with a half-finger light brown head. The head recedes into a thin layer on top leaving solid lacing.
Smells of sweet toffee and burnt sugar with hints of roasted malts backing things up. Also present are mild amounts of dark chocolate but the cloying sweetness overpowers and subtleties.
Tastes similar to how it smells. Syrupy brown sugar flavors kick things off with hints of darker roasted malt flavors lurking in the background. The sweetness lets up for a moment midway through the sip, allowing semi-sweet chocolate flavors to make their way out. The ending is equally sweet and bitter.
Mouthfeel is OK. It's got a decent thickness with carbonation that's a bit on the harsh side.
Drinkability is not very good. I had a somewhat rough time finishing my glass and would not want another.
Overall I found this beer to be entirely too sweet although if I smelled and tasted hard enough I could detect a decent beer behind all of it. Hopefully this will be refined in subsequent batches.

Listed with the 2010 year, I'm guessing that this is an annual release beer, but for what season? The final round during my stay, on to the beer:
