Looks nice in the tall pilsener glass, clear reddish brown. The first sip tastes like the usual too much cinnamon and cloves. It even starts with a promise of some Belgian yeasty wierdness, but veers off into what I can only describe as pumpkin pie flavored cough syrup. So sweet and so bitter at the same time, it's like they're trying to mask some intense medicinal taste.

So utterly undrinkable I want to spit out what's still welling up in my mouth after I swallow. I can't even imagine what's going on here, but they do seem to like the industrial-strength bittering hops. It didn't taste infected, either.

This was described to me as a winter ale aged in Bourbon Barrels for 8 months.

A: Dark brown with a creamy light brown head.

S: Caramel and bread with a whisper of chocolate and a little earth. There's a little coffee in there as well. 8 month in a bourbon barrel? This is pretty bland and I don't get any bourbon, vanilla, or oak.

T: Bread with toasted malt and a little caramel. There are pretty strong acetaldehyde notes midpalate with a little acetone. Ouch.

M: Upper medium body with matching carbonation.

Overall: Eight months in a bourbon barrel? I'm not sure what happened here but I do not recommend this. The taste is riddled with off flavors.
