Serious-looking dark brown in the pint shaker. Nicely sudsy in the mouth, with a low but persistent foam in the glass. Interesting aroma of roast grain and honey.

Flavor is a smooth but indefinable mix of dark fruit and roasted malt. Hints of cocoa, dried figs. The brewer says this is made with dates and honey, but the flavors are quite subtle. It's just slightly sweet, more like a Dubbel. It actually makes me think of a Porter, with that velvety darkness that is so pleasing.

A great quaff-- warm and just malty enough, with a distinct hoppy aftertaste along with the yeasty bitterness. An intriguing and highly drinkable dark brew. On tap at Ciro's in Pacific Beach.
