Notes say, "Barrel 1029: Aged 15mo in HH Bourbon Barrels. ABV: 13.6%" On tap at the 2012 LA Barrel Night.

Pours a graduated amber color but no head and no carbonation. On the nose: mint and rosemary, lots of raisin and blackcurrant as well; not much barrel but a touch of oak. Taste is well balanced and with a bit more barrel: the base beer, dark fruit melds well with bourbon--more bourbon than barrel characteristics per se--with a touch of vanilla, mint, and spice. Mouthfeel is flat, syrupy, full bodied. Overall, this is a mild barrel treatment to a solid base beer. The flatness knocks it quite a bit, but the mint and rosemary flavors are unusual and really nice.

A: poured a dark brown in color with brown highlights and a very thin head that almost left no lacing sticking to the glass.

S: you can definitely tell that it was sitting in bourbon barrels but the herbal notes were up just as potent with a little vanilla coming through, and plenty of caramel/

T: It was a good mix between the herbal jasmine character and the complexity that the bourbon barrel brought out of the base beer but the booze was still pretty potent on the palate. It had some good sweetness from the caramel tones and great vanilla accents as well.

M: the brew was medium in body with a moderate amount of carbonation which had a sweet, boozy, bourbon barrel, herbal, and sticky finish.

O: I thought it was a good beer, a little too hot for my liking but not nothing like a little age can't take care of. Glad to have tried the barrel version

A: Near black with no head. A cascading string of pearls suggests a high ABV. I suspect this is closer to 14% than 12%.

S: Perfume-like rosemary blends with robust bourbon notes. Booze is very strong in the nose, melding with vanilla, maple, and caramel.

T: The flavor is quite boozy, as the nose suggested. This is definitely a boozy barrel. Lots of rosemary with bourbon and firm cherry and plum notes. There's a mild tartness with a faint vanilla presence.

M: Full body with a silky, sticky mouthfeel.

Overall: An interesting but enjoyable barrel. The rosemary seemed to double in strength when I would have expected it to fade. The barrel brought a lot to the table. Overall, very nice. #159

Had this at the 4th anniversary party. review from memory. I'm new to sours, but have started to appreciate them more and more. Not sure if this is technically a sour or not, but it had a very strong sour flavor that I could appreciate...however, the bourbon barrel aging was way out of place. it added a big booze and vanilla sweetness to a already complex sour. It was a very interesting experiment, but I highly doubt this will be duplicated as the flavors did not work together. I have had an infected Abyss since having this, and it reminded me a lot of the BB 10-C in that it had the sour flavor fighting a darker sweeter flavor.
