750 mL bottle. Neck tag but no real label. Smells of strong wine, hefty caramel, oak, dark fruit, and earthy yeast. Tastes of dark fruit tartness and sour red wine immediately. Brown sugar. Oak. Bitter and earthy back end, like a strong Brett flavor. This is fascinating. I like it. Couldn't drink much, but it's excellent.

Thanks to a shadowy member of the Knights Templar for delivering this bottle to our Box Set tasting.

A - Largely still. A tiny ring of bubbles, but no wisps or lacings lingers. Opaque near-black body, with a light brown glass-coating film.

S - Huge oak, bourbon, sour cherries, moderate vinous notes, chocolate cake, marshmallows, fudge.

T - The taste is a similar mix of chocolate, vanilla, and fudge sweetness, light whiskey and dark fruit mid-palate, before finishing vinous and mildly tart. Seems more sour than Veritas 009, which I believe was an offshoot of this project. Nice, but lacks a bit of the punch of the aroma. Unknown ABV, but I'm not getting a ton of booze.

M - Dry, medium-full body, with virtually no carbonation. Very tanny and oaky, with some mild warming alcohol in the finish. Drinks a bit more like a big Cabernet than a beer.

D - This specific bottling was somewhat similar to Veritas 009, but with some mild differences. I liked that beer a fair bit, so it's not entirely surprising that I liked this. This specific iteration was bottled quite a while back, so it's entirely conceivable the beer still in barrels has developed differently. Curious if this will ever see an official release.

A: Black and viscous with no head and a thick booze collar. I'll bet this is around 14% ABV.

S: Huge maple and soy notes with vanilla and oak. Strong dark cherry and plum presence blends with bourbon, chocolate, and brown sugar. The maple and soy combination is nothing short of awesome. There's a hint of tartness. Stunning nose.

T: Pronounced vinous flavor with a light tartness and strong bourbon notes. Lots of plum, dark cherry, and currant. Brown sugar blends with soy, light chocolate, and oak. There's a little maple, but not close to the amount found in the aroma. Flavor gives no indication of the high ABV.

M: Full body smooth and sticky with warming on the palate.

Overall: A unique beer in every way. The aroma is up there with the best of them. Highly recommended. #943 2yr
