Had on tap at Neighborhood in San Diego.

Beer pours a nice brown color with a good amount of brown head.

Beer smells very roasty and chocolatey.

Beer tastes very roasty and lots of chocolate notes. The taste kind of looses momentum after the first part of the sip and finishes kind of weak.

The beer was very thin for a porter.

Overall an OK porter.

They call it a "Holiday Spiced Porter" and list the abv at 8.3%

Very dark, classic porter appearance with a tawny head, but not much of it. Thin body. Nice fragrance of roasted malt and pumpkin pie. Spice is sharp with some harsh notes. Flavors of cloves and burnt sugar. Surprisingly little hint of malt sweetness. Definitely the dry style of porter.

Gets mellower as you sip, but this airedale has less of a bite and more of a lick.

A: Thick, dark brown pour with a red hue at top... Thin head at first, which did not last throughout the glass... not lacing.

S: Chocolate, toffee, coffee, and caramel.

T: Same as the smell would imply, mostly dark chocolate with coffee. Also a hint of honey flavor. Very pleasant, and it suits this colder day in SD.

M: Very low carbonation leads to a creamy, rich, smooth mouthfeel. Very little alcohol bite. A creamy smoothness lingers nicely.

D: I would recommend this as a great beer to enjoy over a long conversation. But in terms of drinking a lot of this, it is heavier on the palate than what I consider to be a beer that you would drink a lot of... its a great beer for paced consumption over a longer period of time...

Overall, I found this to be well worth the trial, this is a style that I always enjoy, but do not turn to as often as amber style ales, so a more experienced stout/porter drinker might have a different take, but it seems like a dependable beer.

Sampled at GABF.

A - Dark brown, with a rich 3-fingered head of dirty vanilla.

S - Strong, rich smell of roasted coffee and chocolate, with a hint of vanilla and cinnamon.

T - Dark flavors of roasted malt, dark chocolate, and creme brulee.

M - Full bodied, with layers of flavors, but with a refreshing acidity and effervescence that leaves you wanting another glass.

D - I could drink this all night. It's probably on the border of being a stout, but the effervescence keeps things from being too heavy.

I'm really bullish on this beer as well as their Hefe. They're both nice entries in a town full of overly hopped beers.
