On-tap at Strong Ale

A: The pour is a nice golden color with perhaps some hints of orange and a nice big white head.

S: Lots of sweet, light fruits to the nose. I get some sweet apples, pears, and some bananas. A nice bready, yeastiness to it as well, and some mild spice esters.

T: The flavor is quite sweet, mostly from the fruit character. Good sweet pears and apples pair nicely with the spice esters from the yeast. The maltiness is moderate and slightly bready with just a touch of bitterness. A bit of a sweet citrus and a fair amount of tropical fruits start to come through as the beer warms up.

M: The body is medium and the carbonation is fairly high.

D: This was one of the surprising beers of the day. I really enjoyed it and found it very enjoyable and easy to drink.

Had the opportunity to try this beer at La Bella Pizza last night, thanks for sharing this one Danny.

First, a description from the website:
"Airdale Bombshell, is a crisp and refreshing Belgian golden ale, made from all Belgian ingredients. Pilsner malts, candi sugars, and an aromatic golden ale yeast were combined to give us a pale blonde ale with aromas of cloves and bubblegum, and a distinctive Belgian "funk"! At 8.3% alcohol, this beer packs a punch while remaining light and refreshing; perfect for the summer months. Available during the months of July thru September, Bombshell is great paired with many mainstay summer foods!
8.3% ABV / 28 IBU's / 5 SRM"

From a 12zo bottle, the beer poured a golden color with a quarter inch of foam. A bit of retention but not that impressive or what I would expect from a Belgian-style golden.

First I could smell sweet banana notes followed by some pilsner malt sweetness, Belgian sugar crystal, a touch grainy and chalky mid-way, powdered sugar, light citrus and white pepper. Later on there were also smells of sweet orange and lemon.

Lemon and citrus twang initially. The tanginess kind of took me by surprise as I was expecting something a little sweeter. Then there were some banana, spices, pepper, and yeast flavors. Hints of grain and wheat sweetness.

The mouthfeel was thick and slightly syrupy on the palate. Low carbonation and a bit heavy on the tongue, not bad though but then again it wasn't creamy and effervescent as others I've had from the style. Overall this was just ok, I wouldn't mind having it again but it's not something I would crave for.
