Originally reviewed April 9, 2005. On tap at the Gitchee Gumee Brewfest 2005. A light hazy golden pour, with whitish head. Aroma almost non-existant except for some malt notes. A very dusty, almost honey gone bad flavor. Not impressive. An overwhelming number of poor Maibocks present at this Fest.

Had this on tap today at O'Hara's. It was served so cold, I thought it had been frozen for awhile.
At first smell (and look for that matter), I am reminded of a pilsner. Bright, Golden color, slighty sweet smell.
Taste- pretty hoppy, if you ask me. You can definitely taste the alcohol in this one. It leaves a syrupy aftertaste, but does go down smooth.
Not the best Maibock I've had, but not terrible.
I ordered a Pale Ale after this one, and probably wouldn't order a Maibock here again until next season.

Picked up a growler of this while in St. Cloud yesterday. I went to grad school at St. Cloud State, met my wife there, and this was one of our favorite places to hang out. They have added the brewpub since we graduated, so this was a new experience for us.

A—pours clear yellow orange color with 1 inch foamy white head, quickly fades to nothing, laces in spots at first, then not at all

S—sour and fruity, banana, orange, some alcohol, smells a little like white wine

T—slightly tart and tangy, alcohol is well hidden, fruits are dominate and tastes similar to a white wine as well.

M—a little slick, light/medium bodied, minimal carbonation that turns to nothing by the end of the glass

D—very easy drinking, but not one of my favorites, I’ll finish the growler, but won’t have this again

Clear yellow. Very light for a maibock. Thin white head leaves sparse amounts of lace. Carbonation is duely noted as it rises quickly. The nose is odd. Like a cross between a pilsner and a maibock. Sweet and honeyish. But also lots of hay, bready malts and floral hops. Overall, the aroma is good. The taste is very sweet. But not overly malty. This is bordering on cloying. But there's also a semblance of "skunk" to the taste as well. It's an odd mixture for a maibock and one that I'm not all that enamored with. Mouthfeel is a little syrupy. Slick and sweet. Not one of my faves.

-Update 2006- This isn't the cleanest Maibock around but it is enjoyable...some nice honey/vanilla/butterscotch flavor....a slight home brrew quality but not bad....I found it quite enjoyable as long as you realize this isn't one of the big hitters for Maibocks...reminds me of those middle of the road, but hard working bust their ass players in the NFL that are important but not Pro-Bowlers (like the Packers DE Kampman...maybe the ex-packer depending on when you read this)..You're not going to pay top buck for this ($15 per growler) but at $8 a growler this hits the spot just fine...I found this years version much more drinkable than last years effort....Let's put it this way...If I lived near St. Cloud I would be back again several times for some more of this at this price...

----
Relatively clear looking...hay and honey on the aroma...mouthfeel is stick and syruppy...sticky sweet maltiness...too sweet even for me and I like sweet beers...almost syruppy...honey like flavor is actually interesting...also some nice vanilla notes....more than one of these would be a challenge..but definitely one of the best I've had from here..

On-tap at Gitchee Gumee Brewfest - Golden yellow with a small white fluffy cap. Keeps a solid collar once the head diminishes.

Light but fairly prominent nose of sweet bready malts with a touch of tangy fruit.

Taste is right on for a Maibock, nice little tangy breadyness to it, sweet and doughy akin to sour dough bagels with light touches of fruit bringing very light banana and green grape.

Feel is close to medium with a lighter chewyness throughout but keeps a very healthy cleanness to it as well as some crispness.

This was very easy to put away. Nice clean profile with just the right amount of flavor. Possibly could have been thicker but was still good non-the-less.
