The third bottle in my twelve brews of Dunham Massey Breweries beers: 500ml, bottle conditioned, best before March 2011, drank and reviewed December 2010.
Poured into a huge 'Judas' glass, just for the hell of it!
It looked superb, a mass(ey)ive foaming quilt head of tanned bubbles sat majestically above the darkest of dark bodies. Rarely have I seen a Jet black body, so Jet black. No idea if any sediment got into the glass, couldn't see a bloody thing.
The aroma is all about roasted/toasted and burnt chocolate malts all in equal quantities giving it a dark, dry chocolate smell.
The taste is also heavy on the chocolate malt theme with a hop bitterness adding to the dark chocolate feel.
Well carbonated and easy to drink, the beer however lacked a richness in the body and although not watery, seemed almost thin towards the end of the mouthfeel.
Another fine beer from this brewery: 3 out of 3, so far.

Am I really the first person to review this on either BA or RB? This is a great responsibility, and sets the tone for all the reviews that follow. A bad review may also discourage purchases, and a good one may encourage them. Funny how one guy's oppinion can effect these things. Anyhow, this is a good one, so if it encourages you to buy, you've made the right choice!
A wonderful black pour that is only slightly opaque, and a majestic mocha head which leaves sheets of foamy lace all the way down the glass. The aroma throws up hints of tobacco, light roasted coffee and dry grain. The flavour is a good reflection of the aroma, with the tobacco predominating, but with the light roasted coffee becoming more prominent as the drink warms, also lending it a pleasant bitterness in the finish. The body is medium, erring towards light, and has a decent carbonation from the active yeast.
Overall, this is a very solid stout, with excellent drinkability. The appearance is almost perfect, and from there on its a very well-made brew that sticks firmly to the guidelines for the style. The best of the three I've had from this brewery.

We love reviews (150 characters or more)! Check out: How to Review a Beer. You don't need to get fancy. Drop some thoughts on the beer's attributes (look, smell, taste, feel) plus your overall impression. Something that backs up your rating and helps others. Thanks!
