Earth Bread + Brewery "Smasher"
on tap at the brewery, 5 September 2015
Notes: Smasher. 8.4% strong pale ale. Amber with golden highlights. Creamy off-white head. Very good retention and lacing. Aroma of malt, fruit/dark fruit, some grass. Mild phenol is distracting. Flavor is bold & bright. Fruit: apple, pear, dark fruit skins, and unripe but not tart berry. Alcohol is evident. Firm bitterness. Dry finish at least in part because of the alcohol, and despite the maltiness. Certainly not bad - given the setting I'm satisfied, but if I wanted to nip at it from a snifter while I work my way through Dostoevsky's "Crime & Punishment" I might not be so lenient.
