Reviewed on 06/30/2009. Draft at Spuyten Duyvil. Pours brown with no head. The aroma is of grassy hops. Flavor of charred/burnt malt with a sweet finish. Weak palate and body. Meh. Not impressed by this one--the flavor is too charred/burnt for my liking.

This is one of the best tasting porters I have ever had. Plus a portion of the proceeds from each beer purchased, are donated to one of three local non profits, and you get to pick which one. Every week there is a different theme..very cool concept! I was very surprised when the waiter explained...
Appearance: dark brown as a porter should be, lighter in body appearance than a stout as expected, nice contrasting white cap of foam.
Aroma: hint of malty sweetness, like molasses [maybe sugar in the raw, dark liquor or maple?], but its not too perfumey. hint of booze.
taste/mouthfeel/drinkability: sweet kind of malty, like a bock, only for a split second, then an immediate drying bitterness, very subtle dark chocolate notes. The bitterness is slow to unfold...then comes a somewhat smoky finish, not too acrid like most porters. Nice Tom was very generous with the hops.
an extremely pleasurable balance, wow this beer is awesome...not too boozy tasting..they went down very easy and they tasted great with my flatbreads!
