On tap at earth bread.

A: Pours a nice dark shade of brown with a solid tan head. Good retention and some lace.

S: Nice roasted aromas with hints of creamy coffee, chocolate, and vanilla.

T: Rather simple really. Espresso forward with hints of chocolate and sweet vanilla playing in the background.

M: One of the lighter coffee stouts I have had.

D: Pretty damn drinkable. I liked it. Loved the setup of the pub as well. Real nice place.

Thanks to Deuane for sharing this growler - poured chilled into a pint.

A - A dark toffee-like brown w/ pale tan cap, translucent clarity and the bead is tight. The lace is decent too.

S - A deep roasted but not quite scorched bean aroma, dark toast in there too with a light bready yeast hint. The coffee is up front lets you not it isn't a plain stout

M - A roasted feel w/ slightly lighter body w/ clean and subtle astringent textures

T - The flavor is alright, not great but for the strength it is above average coffee plays a big part in the flavor, The taste is like slightly burnt toast as it finishes w/ gentle brown sugar accents, it has a dry quality in the finish

D - A lighter beer w/out sacrificing the flavor of a stout. The coffee is a nice accent to the beer and it is very easy to quaff this ale

Via growler on 10/15/09, courtesy of Deuane.

A - Vigorous pour yielded a dark coffee brown body with mammoth 2+ finger tower of light tan, sponge-like foam that reduced to about a quarter inch and deposited spotty lacing around the glass.

S - Aroma doesn't really scream coffee, but it's in there, and it's authentic. Nice roasty character with hints of chocolate and a bit of nutty astringency.

T - There's the coffee! Initial taste boasts a flavorful medium roasted character with a hint of chocolate and some nuttiness. Overall, the flavor is much more coffee-forward than the aroma.

M - Light to medium bodied with a smooth, silky texture and light carbonation, perhaps a tad watery overall.

D - Very good coffee stout overall with a lighter feel than other coffee stouts I've encountered in the past. The fact that it's not overly thick or rich really bolsters its drinkability.

Thanks to Deuane for sharing this at the Brass Rail.

A: The coffee stout is a dark color that comes close to but isn't quite black. In fact, red caramel highlights seem pretty abundant, lightening up the stout significantly when light is shone through it.

S: The stout has a cold toddy aroma, augmenting sweet, lactic malts with a scent of coffee and cream. No indications of any alcohol.

T: The stout is very light, delivering a surprising amount of flavor for such a small package. Coffee really stands out, alongside a creamy sweetness that reminds me of an oatmeal/lactic flavor. The result is a cafe au lait flavor that has a balsamic vinegar sourness near the end of each sip. The stout doesn't weigh on you though, keeping the flavor light. The roasted malts support the coffee, adding bitterness that accentuates the sweetness of the coffee.

M: The coffee and cream flavors are dominant, pleasantly sweet and vibrant. The finish leaves a strong java taste on the palate.

D: I went back for a second glass. Another low alcohol ale from EB+B that has a full flavor and goes down quite well.

This beer came a dark brown that was a little clearer at the bottom letting through some deep purples and cola. The head was a thin white collar.

Smells of tons of sweet coffee backed by sour, toasted grains with a bit of maple smoke. Nice.

Tastes of big roasted grains that are well faded into a smooth coffee. Finishes sweet and clean. The balance and transition here are nice.

Feels very slick and clean with a light rasp of carbonation.

Nice! A well balanced use of coffee.
