The story behind this beer is that the brewer was making a special bitter, that somehow was infected from a kettle or keg of Belgian style beer on the premises. In any event...
The beer pours a reddish amber color with good head retention and lacing. Frankly, I don't get a great deal of underlying Belgian spice on the nose, with the aroma profile offering up cereal and pepper. On the palate, the beer reminded me of the Union Dew, excpet there was also some interesting chocolate flavors, as well as a bit of spice. The beer was a bit more intesting and enjoyable then the IPA, but not greatly so. As with the other cask beers here, mouthfeel was fairly soft and creamy and long, and drinkability was OK. The beer had a bit more malty sweetness and bitterness in the finish then I got in the IPA, though I still can't way I was exactly wowed by this beer. Ho hum...
