Pours a murky dark brown color with white head. Plenty of lacing. The aroma is dark and roasted with a bit of herbal hop.
In the taste, big black malt and black licorice. Some anise like flavor along with heavily roasted malt. Fair citrusy bitterness and grassy flavor. Not bad.
Full bodied, creamy ale. Good carbonation and coats the palate thoroughly.
Overall this is a pretty good stout. Alot of chicory flavor but good.

Draft only
Aroma of roasted malt
Head – can’t tell size, light brown, creamy, ends as 2 mm ring
Lacing OK – partial rings with small bubbles
Body dark brown, opaque
Flavor begins lightly sweet with some roasted malt and chocolate overtones; no alcohol, no hops, no diacetyl; ends with a slight roasted malt bitterness
Palate medium to full, creamy, lively carbonation
This is an OK stout, not the greatest but not the worst either. Stouts are what the Blue Canoe does best. This has a pleasing aroma and appearance. The flavor is pretty much a generic stout – nothing special.
