Henry's Irish Ale, 5.6% alcohol is a full flavoured dark ale made with U.K. pale malt and roasted barley along with Fuggles hops to give it a nutty toasted flavour with gentle bitterness. Henry's Irish is named after Henry Strickland who was the owner of a brewery in Peterborough around the turn of the century. Henry's Irish Ale is our winter seasonal ale, available October through March.

Clear red brown with a modest head. Pleasant sweet caramel malt nose. Medium, thinnish body with a dry finish to style.

A - Dark Amber Red.
S - Citric acid, mild hop and malt notes.
T - This is a distinct malt tastes, low hops only on initial sip, malt mildly last on after taste.
M - Very light on the tongue, low hops on the sides of tongue.
O - This is a decent offering, very light over all on taste even though it is 5.6%. Would defiantly buy this again, nice and fresh in the growler. This is also a great price point. 10.35$ for a fill.

Publican House sent this cask down from Peterborough for Volo's 5th Annual Cask Days.
I ordered a half pint of the rich mahogany coloured ale, which was topped with a small tan head. Nice and full malty aroma, with strong notes of caramel, biscuit and flowers. Likewise, the flavour heavily accents the malts, but is relieved by some light floral hopping. Caramel dominates, with biscuit and nut in the background. A little bit sweet and fruity, but nicely cut by a moderately bitter finish. Very well balanced. Medium body with a low carbonation.
Despite not being a huge fan of Irish Reds, beers like this could make me change my mind.

Volo cask days 2009. This brewer has competent material. Here os a lower IBU ale that is a very drinkable cask. Medium brown colour, a bold taste with a bit of citrus and a little acidic in the finish. This would go well with food. Average mouthfeel.

A: Reddish-brown with a light tan head, light retention & lacing from the cask.
S: Caramel, nut & a little floral spicing.
T: Plenty of flavour for it's weight; leaning towards a nutty brown ale in style. Very malty, caramel, nut, biscuit, cocoa, with a balanced bitterness.
M: Moderate body is smooth with a hint of residual sweetness.
D: Quite good.

Bottle: Poured a deep clear burgundy color ale with a small foamy head with OK retention and minimal lacing. Aroma of pure malt with hint of sweetness, minimal hops even though ending is somewhat dry. Taste is also a nice mix between some medium sweet pure malt with a lightly dry ending. Good session ale with no adjunct and and full body. Nothing out of the ordinary but still a well crafted Irish ale.

On tap at Volo.
Pours a clear dark reddish brown, very nice colour, thick light tan head forms, drops some decent lacing on the glass, pretty good retention, thin layer and ring sticks around. Smell is nice, very malty, some caramel sweetness, brown sugar, toast and biscuit, light bit of floral hops to hold it up, earthy character, nothing spectacular but well crafted. Taste is similar, nice sweetness up front, rich caramel and brown sugar, very malty, some toasty dryness through the middle, dark fruits like raisin, red grapes, light floral but nice sweet finish, very balanced. Mouthfeel is low to medium bodied with low carbonation. Nice take on the style, very smooth malty ale, easy to put back. These guys are doing some nice stuff.
