Served on cask at Al's of Hampden.
A - Pours pitch black with a bubbly half finger tall off white head, dissipating to pretty much nothing, leaving very little if any lace down the glass.
S - Smells a bit more balanced than the regular version. Hints of oak, coconut, vanilla, bourbon, chocolate malt, dried dark fruit and a dash of hops. Like the base this has quite a bit going on.
T - Starts off with a mix of chocolate malt, vanilla and coconut sweetness quickly giving way to hints of bourbon, oak, dark fruits and some light bitterness. There is still a light fruitiness to it, just as in the base, but I still don't think it is anything more than clashing flavors. Finish is sweet with plenty of heat, lingering long after the finish.
M - Heavy body with moderate to low carbonation. It has the same sweet, bitter, boozy feel as the base but the cask does make it a little smoother.
O - A bit of an improvement from the base. The added sweetness and texture help round off some of the rough edges but it is still a little tough to take on as it firmly in the sipper category. A novelty but not a lot more than that, there are better beers on right now.

First had: firken pour at Pizza Boy
Served in a snifter, a clear but deep liquid, dark ruby-mahogany, with a ringlet of bubbles on top. Aroma was sweet with caramelized sugars, dark fruits, lighter notes of vanilla and coconut. Taste of caramel malts, rum raisin, coconut water, and interestingly lots of fruity Jolly Rancher flavors: cherry, apple, and grape. Some booziness, but amazingly for the ABV, this was not an overly hot beer. The mouthfeel was not as thick and chewy as I'd have expected, though it did get a little more sticky as it warmed. Medium body, appropriately low carbonation, and a pretty good sipper overall. Not for everyone, but I enjoyed it.
