Served on cask hand pull at Al's of Hampden.
A - Pours ink black with a bubbly one finger tall tan head, quickly dissipating down to nothing at all, leaving coffee grounds all over the sides of the glass.
S - While it is cold it is pretty tame, only offering hints of the true aromas. Once it warms the coffee comes out in force as well as chocolate malt, licorice, dark fruit and plenty of dark roast.
T - Starts off with a mix of coffee and dulled hop bitterness quickly being joined by the roasty malt, dark fruits and light chocolate sweetness. Finish is roasty with some mild bitterness, lingering long after the finish.
M - Heavy body with moderate carbonation. Smooth feel initially going pretty thin as it sits in the glass.
O - Honestly not sure how much of an improvement this is over the base. It is definitely more stout this time around with very little hop presence left over. I think I like this version a touch more than the base but then I tend to lean toward stouts anyway.
