Served on cask at Al's of Hampden. Pours slightly hazy golden yellow with a one and a half finger tall white head, quickly dissipating to a very light film, leaving small webs of lace on the sides of the glass.
Smells of dulled citric hops, grapefruit zest, spicy habanero, bit of pine, grass and pale malt round it out but it's really just the habanero and citric fruit / hops. Taste is pretty much exactly the same with a small hint of citric hops and grapefruit up front followed closely by the habanero heat and not much else. Smooth, spicy feel with a touch of hop bitterness creeping in as the heat dies down.
Overall I think it's a decent spiced IPA. It is nowhere near as juicy as the base version is, which is a bit of letdown. I just don't see the appeal of these lighter chili beers. The peppers just muddle everything up and then make it hard to consume with the heat.
