Over a year ago we brewed a beer with a very good customer and friend-STEPHENSON. the stout spent an entire year aging on bannana caramel in woodford reserve bourbon barrels.

Looks great. Pitch black with tight tan head. Lots of bourbon and big stout in the nose. Taste is barrel forward but balanced with roasty, malty stout flavor and a moderate alcohol burn throughout. Really quite impressive fresh, a big, bourbon stout. For as bourbon barrel, alcohol forward as this beer is I found it very drinkable. Another killer Pizza Boy beer.

Served on-tap at Al's of Hampden. Pours pitch black with a half finger tall tan head, quickly dissipating down to a very light ring, leaving minimal if any lace on the glass.

Smells of intense alcohol from the bourbon, woody oak, cocoa powder, tons of dark roast, some caramel sweetness and a very faint hint of what I can only assume is the banana's. Taste starts off much the same with tons of warming bourbon booze burn up front quickly being joined by the cocoa, oak and dark roast. As the initial flavors die off some caramel, toffee and banana creep into the picture. Hot, roasty feel throughout leaving the palate dried out long after the finish.

Overall a decent bourbon stout. I do still get some of the intended flavors but the bourbon really took over and nearly overran the entire thing. Nice to try, just be prepared for a bourbon onslaught.
