Sampling a 16 oz can poured into a snifter at cellar temp. The beer pours a clear mahogany color with a thin beige colored head foaming up. The tightly packed bubbles fade to almost nothing pretty quickly after the pour.
Aroma is dark malts and fruity notes too. Some toffee and caramel, but dominated by red grape, plums and raisins. There isnt any hop profile to speak of and the alcohol is well hidden too.
First sip reveals an average body with fine spacious carbonation. The texture is sticky with a coating on my palate after each swallow. A little more thickness on the texture would enhance this brew.
Flavor is toffee and brown sugar with raisins and plums again. The hops are absent the booze is sneaky from start to finish.
This is more of an English Barleywine than american based on the absence of hop character and is sneaky on the booze. A good brew but not an outstanding one.
