- in duvel glass.
A: Rich dark pour from the howler produces a late forming dark saddle brown head of 0.25 inches that lapsed rather quickly. Soft micro-golden beads slowly make their way to the surface. Poured from a howler 6 hours after initial pour, I have no idea if this had an affect on the head formation and longtivity. Clean window dressing.
S: The nose was freshly charred firewood, roasted barley, cinnamon spicing, with some habenero pepper-chocolate tones. Flashes of dark fruit, cherries, combine with the dominant campfire minerality. Moderate strength, love the lingering smoky charred sense.
T: The flavor was fresh milky chocolate, with some hersey quick syrup sweetness. Background nuances of softly smoked charred wood and barley mix with the sweetness of the chocolate. Small traces of habanero chili peppers bring a nice touch with charred pine and rich cold coffee rounding things out on a dry stout finish of vanilla.
M: Smooth silky mouthful bears a nice resistance of medium-full intentions. Softly carbonated.
O: Rich smooth chocolate drink, with a soft delivery of carbonation and spicy attributes makes this a joy effortless drink. I was informed and assured this was the base beer, but can't help to pick out a cinnamon and habanero aspect to the drink which left me wondering. No wonder the the speciality take-offs garnish such high regards.
