I wasnt going to add this cask version of the little amps sunny side up but it is so widely different and enjoyable that it needs to be known about. From the hand pull at the source into a nonic. The brew appears black in color with a brown head that is quick to fade leaving spotty amounts of lace and a thin bead of bubbles around the perimeter of the glass.

The best way I can describe this aroma is Founders KBS but without the bourbon spike of alcohol. Fresh coffee is upfront and bold with a minor citrus coffee bean element. It is contrasted by a sticky sweet scent of vanilla beans. As the brew warms up, it gets progressively more roasty but it blends back and forth between coffee and roasted grain character.

The taste is fresh roasted coffee upfront that persists throughout the experience. It has a fresh coffee bean quality that provides a hint of citrus. More sips reveal a contrasting vanilla bean sweetness with a hint of bakers chocolate. Minor earthy elements are present with a mild fusel to solvent touch of alcohol that only emerges as the brew warms up. The aftertaste has enough alcohol character that it starts to almost become numbing on the palate but it never gets to be over the top.

This is a full bodied brew with a modest to lower level of carbonation. It is smooth, easy drinking and a must try for coffee lovers. I was already a fan of this base beer, the vanilla and cacao nibs took this over the top. This brew is crazy similar to fouders KBS but with a much lower impact of alcohol. Wow. Once/if this beer hits bourbon barrels...game over.

Server on cask at Al's of Hampden.

A - Pours jet black with a creamy one and a half finger tall tan head, dissipating down to a light film, leaving sticky rings of lace down the glass. Second time I had this it left rings of coffee grounds down most of the glass...

S - Smells of a TON of coffee, vanilla and milk chocolate sweetness and plenty of dark roast. Just like the regular version but with a bit more sweetness and a touch more roast. I am not sure what more you could want here.

T - Starts off with a huge amount of fresh brewed coffee slowly giving way to some nice vanilla and chocolatey sweetness. Finish is roasty with some dulled sweetness, lingering on the palate long after the finish. The added sweetness and creamy feel really smooths out the rough edges into an incredible coffee stout.

M - Heavy body with moderate carbonation. Creamy feel and very little booze for how big it is. All things considered this one is incredibly easy to drink.

O - I already liked this beer but this cask version takes it to a whole other level. The creamy feel and added light sweetness really bring it all together into one amazing package. This is easily one of the best I have had from Pizza Boy.
