brewed in 2017, bottled in 2018, this is super unique stuff. i havent seen a beer from these guys around in forever, i was pumped to find this, rare and delicious. its a wild ale, barrel fermented, with wild blackberry juice, super interesting stuff, presents a green glass and lambic funk, but isnt overly acidic to drink, complex as they come from multiple ferments, just incredibly interesting and nuanced liquid here, worth the price. there isnt much color from the fruit element here, its a paler copper colored brew with a stout white head and a lot of viscosity and haze, not messy looking, but substantial. the nose is slightly skunky, with some tannic fruitiness, old wet musty oak, developed bready yeast character, a rustic saison vibe in terms of base beer, and some citrusy acid, mouthwatering and really different. i must confess i taste more generic yeast derived fruity esters than i do actual blackberries or their juice, its almost more vinous than raw fruity, especially with all the oak on it. tons of soupy grain body too, this is wheaty at its core i think, lots of structure, dry and supportive, lightly spicy perhaps some rye in the mix. carbonation is surprisingly high enough for this to feel uplifted and bright despite all the body. the flavors here are hard to describe, truly one of a kind, the process maybe slightly cooler than the final result, at least with this much age on it, but its not hard to appreciate the nuance and the craftsmanship. impressive specimen, glad i found it, always expect the unexpected with their beers!
