On tap at Blue Monk. Black with no head, and bourbon wine highlights. Roast in nose.Spicy chile cherry chocolate, a little licorice. light mouthfeel yet a sipper, and so would be best in place of dessert as a digestive. Slightly tangy fruity and roast Well carbonated. Tasty.

On draft at Churchkey:

Pours a dark brown color w/ a thin cocoa head in my snifter glass. Minimal lacing. The nose is slightly sour, barnyard, feet, and somewhat acidic. The taste is the same, but I swear I'm getting some chocolate and a little coffee in the background. Not nearly sour and funky enough for my tastes. Feel is very smooth, with good carbonation and slight tartness. Overall, a decent brew- definitely on the mild side.

From 12/1/11 notes. Had on tap at Churchkey in Washington, DC.

a - Pours a dark brown color with one inch of off white head and light carbonation evident.

s - Smells of sour fruits, roasted malts, chocolate, light vinegar. A nice mix of sour fruit and roasted notes, pretty nice.

t - Tastes of chocolate, roasted malts, light vinegar, light sweet dark fruits. Not bad, but not nearly as sour as the nose was.

m - Medium bod and low carbonation, but pretty smooth. Would have liked a little bit more carbonation.

o - Overall a pretty good Belgian dark ale. I really liked the nose and was hoping the taste was just as sour, but it was not. Worth checking out.

still, without carbonation, very low viscosity. dark brown, nearly purple.

smells like soured fruit: plum, pear. vinegar? smoke. wood. pleasant, ripened dark fruits. little charred malt.

yum. yum. wow. unique beer. plum, raisin, vinegar bite, light smoke, more wood characteristics, a sourness that seems to come from another fruit--cassis?

pretty thin and thinner and dryer through the palate from the souring. it has a sweetness in the front of the progression that loads you up for something entirely different than what it turns out to be.

really interesting beer. it seems to be two totally different ales in one experience. though it has the mostly stone fruit sweetness and tinny malt flavor of a belgian dark, it morphs into something like a oud bruin or a sour rye. really cool.
love the farmers cabinet.

Medium bodied with a slightly sweet malt presence and prominent barrel character. Sweet vinous dark fruit gives way to a tart, puckering funk mid-palate. Finishes with more dark fruit notes and peppery spice. Very strange with malt giving way to funk to vinous fruit to barrel to more sweetness.
