I had this on-tap at Special Brews in Lynnwood, WA. This is billed by the brewer as a Double Pale Ale, but not quite an IPA.
Appearance: rich amber hue with a light haze and no head. I blame the pour -- the color is dark and enticing.
Smell: kind of dank and citrusy hops atop a relatively sweet caramel base. Not bad.
Taste: citrusy and resiny hops atop a rather caramelly malt body. There's an herbal bitterness at the end. It's nice; it kind of reminds me of a hoppy red minus the toastier and biscuitier elements that I don't like. This is a solid beer!
Mouthfeel: medium body with a rocky carbonation and creaminess. Not too bad.
Overall: I like this beer. It really is as described -- heavy for a pale but not quite an IPA. The hops have a very fresh quality that I like. It's also highly drinkable for a 6.8% brew.
