It would seem that Naked City has not yet learned how to carbonate their beers. It might have been a smart idea to exercise a bit of quality control in this area before offering their beers publicly, otherwise people will react as I did by expressing disappointment to a flat, lifeless ale.

Hoptari 644 is a fresh hop ale brewed with rye, wheat, and oats. Both the recipe and the process seem experimental and suffer from a burdensome complexity that never fully congeals into a cohesive whole. This chicken-yellow pale ale feels like it's being pulled in too many directions. As a fresh hop ale released in the second week of December, it arrives late in the season. It must have been brewed two months previously, yet it never carbonated. It sports a doughy, yeasty aroma and a rimmed head. What little malt or hop character exists is obscured by intrusive yeasty funk and delivered on a droopy mouthfeel.

Walk away. Walk away slowly.
