Lovely pile of foam on the dark orangey amber brew. Really spicy and more flavorful than a lot of rye brews. Sweet malt starts out the robust mouthful. Tangy and lush mouthfeel. Moderate bitter aftertaste but hops are used with restraint. Really a good example of what can be done with rye malt, and about my favorite of the style.

Served in a pint glass at the Naked City Taphouse.

A - Cloudy/hoppy amber color, nice head retention, good lace retention.

S - Good.

T - Wonderfully tart hoppy taste. Very firm for an IPA - feels like it might be dry hopped but I didn't ask so I don't know for sure.

M & D - Very comfortable drinking this beer. Goes down as easily and quickly as your mood demands.

This is a very good IPA worth a try anytime. If you get the chance, check it out.

This is "Rye IPA" according to the brewery, so if the category is wrong, please feel free to correct it. Naked City has been open as a pub for a while now and recently got their brewery running and this is the first brew I've had from them.

Served in straight pint glass. Poured a reddish/orange/amber combo that was attractive, but had just a thin cap of head and minimal lacing.

The aroma was decent, full and balanced, but was lacking a sharp rye scent or a crisp hop tang. The flavor was a little more pronounced, with the Rye dominant and a slightly citrus hop finish.

The body was decent, although on the thin side. Drinkability was very nice, although the lack of "pop" made me look for a different choice for my second beer.

Overall, a decent enough beer. My standard for Rye IPAs is Hop Rod Rye, which is among my favorite IPAs period. As a first shot, from a new brewery, I'll cut them some slack and see what the future holds. If you're in the PNW give it a shot, it's an enjoyable brew.
