Draft at the brewpub in Seattle.
Pours a hazy dark golden orange color with tangerine hues and a two finger frothy white head that slowly settles into a lasting ring. Streaks of lace left behind.
Roasted coffee aroma that overpowers the hops almost completely. More malty than anything with roasted coffee bean, caramel and toffee. Doesn't smell like an ipa but still interesting.
Medium bodied with a blast of bone dry, bitter resinous hops that linger throughout into a very dry finish. Countered mid-palate by a roasted coffee and sweet malt presence. Roastiness of coffee adds to bitterness but has a distinct coffee flavor that plays off of the malts nicely. Caramel and toffee provide some much needed sweetness but unfortunately not enough. Way too bitter and even though the coffee adds another dimension, it's just overly resinous, dry and bitter.

Naked City, this is the first time they brewed it. Never had anything close to this before. Labeled "special ale", and described as a "coffee IPA".
Pours a clean, clear golden yellow/
Smell is full of coffee grounds.
Taste is porter-like. Very prominent coffee flavors, but a lighter body than I'm used to.
Palate is crisp. It's got a bigger hop presence than most dark beers, but less than that of a regular IPA.
Very interesting beer.
