I know the lines between CDA's and Porters are thin sometimes, but,IMHO, this beer would have been better served by being classified a Porter, keep that in in my scores and review.
Served in straight pint glass. Poured a nearly solid black, just a little translucence around the edges, with just over 1/4 inch of khaki colored head that had low retention and lacing.
The aroma was solidly roast and malt, very low hops, not the big hop blast we look for in our CDA's here in Cascadia. Same dealio on the tongue yo. Solid roast all across, soft malts in the background and no real hop identity.
The body was typical for a Porter, too full for a CDA. Drinkability was good, I'd certainly have a couple on a rainy day, but it wouldn't be my first choice during our summer. Overall, a very good beer, one certainly worth trying (and even some effort to seek out), and one that would have gotten 1 full point more in every category had it been called a Porter. It's a must try.
