On tap @ the Beer Engine. Translates to "Eric's Sour Wood". Nice one!
Looks nice in the glass, a medium to dark brown color with some reddish highlights. The head is nonexistent, though. Still appealing. Almost reminds me of an old bruin.
Smell is lacto sharp sour with some lemon notes. Also a noticeable grainy malt. Just a touch of band-aid brett as well.
Taste is just not there for me. There's a bit of sourness, with lemon hints. There's also some sour cherry and a bit of wildness from the brett. However, the beer quickly shifts towards a weird malty aftertaste that's almost like toasted Munich malt (not sure, couldn't exactly put my finger on it, but it was really weird and not like the Belgian malts beers like this normally turn to when the sour runs out of gas mid-way through the flavor roller-coaster). Some mild wine barrel tastes as well, but could use a bit more cohesiveness and a touch less of the strange malt turn.
The mouthfeel is average with nice carb and light body, but the finish is just brutal.
Drinkable? Well, that depends. I polished it off quickly mostly because it was painful to let the aftertaste settle in. Just not there for me, sorry Eric - but don't let this dissuade you, keep the experimentation coming!
