This is the first I've ever seen a coffee stout brewed at Beer Engine. It was tapped specifically for the Founder's breakfast event on 10/24/10.
I had the opportunity to compare this to Breakfast Stout, KBS, as well as Southern Tier JahVa.
After the Founders beers this was my favorite. Nice super black beer, darker looking than KBS. No head, light carbonation, minimal to no lacing.
Smelled sublime! Next to Breakfast Stout this is about as good as it gets. Heavy, thick espresso quality. Medium roasted aroma, and very mild sweetness.
The flavor was at first odd. There were definite coffee notes, followed by some out of place hop bitterness. As the beer warmed the taste grew to resemble the aroma. Tons of fresh cold pressed espresso. Nice roasted chocolate malt and enough bitterness between the coffee and hops to prevent this from getting overly sweet.
Medium to light bodied. Minimal carbonation. Drinks extremely easy for the high abv. This was a real treat, and hopefully becomes a more regular brew at Buckeye Beer Engine.
