On cask at Buckeye Beer Engine.
A- What a show this beer put on. I was sitting right in front of the hand pump as the bartender pumped out pints of this for myself and another couple at the bar. Each serving had to be done in at least two parts. The frothy tan foam rose so beautifully to a frothy mountain she had to wait for it to settle some. The glass was set in front of me as I gazed at its stunning cascading effect, as if it were served on nitro. Only this was natural and a thing of beauty. The head retention had to be the work of heaven. The dark body was rich and shown with edges of the darkest Ruby. I felt God in the Beer Engine that day.
S- Perhaps slightly masked by the luxuriously thick head, the aroma was a bit light. Still though, everything represented was wonderful. Light floral and grass hops weave in and out of a nice ale fruitiness. A faint suggestion of roast and chocolate lets you know this will be a nice, dark one.
T- Holy cow. Everything is artfully balanced here. It starts with a light, grassy hop flavor. The malts are rich, fruity and lightly roasted. Berries, coffee, chocolate and plenty of grain. Everything is weaved together. No one flavor overpowers. It rejuvenates the palate, rather than crushing it. What a magical elixir.
M- The cask was at perfect temperature. The body, with the creamy, low yet full carbonation, flowed gently over my tongue. Finsihing dry, this glass barely hit the bar. It beckoned me to take another sip.
D- Rarely do I enter a bar with so many choices in beer and say "Screw everything I thought I wanted to try, I'll have another of these." But this beer did just that. Anyone in Cleveland is lucky to have this there. Better get down there before its gone. I wish they bottled this stuff, but I know it wouldn't be quite the same.
