Earthy brown pour with a frothy 2 fingers of tan head that lasts and laces nicely.
Aroma is malty and sweet, with plenty of dark caramel, prune, dark fruit, chocolate, and toasty wood notes. Aroma doesn't really clue one in to what style this is supposed to be. Smells like a malty Brown Ale of some sort.
Flavor is confusing, but tastey. Plenty of toffee and caramel notes with powdery chocolate and very weak coffee notes. There are nice notes of dark dried fruit and spiced fruitcake. There is definately nothing remotely Belgian tasting about this brew, it tastes more like an Imperial Nut Brown or English Brown Ale with kicked up malts. Tastes good nontheless.
Body is very big, almost syruppy. Mouthfeel is full and creamy with a very slippery, smooth texture. Styleistically this is way off, but happens to taste good in spite of it's ambiguity.

Originally sampled on 26 December 2002. This pours brown colored w/ a thin tan head. Lots of spice on the nose & tongue (but none in the beer). This is a very tasty winter beer. This is an enjoyable, special occassion beer. Thanks to alcfron for sending it my way

2002 Bottle: 22oz of holiday joy! First of all this is the first ever beer I have had that had a wax-sealed top. How cool is that? Dark copper color with a thin light beige head. Sediment left in the bottle. I am flabbergasted that they add no spice to this beer, as the aroma is a spiced mix of clove, corriander and burnt orange. Both the flavor and texture are a rich blend of sweet malt, spices, and fruits. This is a great addition to the grand tradition of holiday brews.
