Last time I had this was back in 2012, probably when they first released. I was in a beer festival, so I could not tell much after having a few trials.
Light brown color with a thick thin head with short retention.
Nice malty aroma with notes of caramels, red fruits, grains, spices (some cinnamon powder, not as in cinnamon rolls), overripe pineapples and lots of molasses.
Likewise, flavor with notes of toffee, cinnamon, booze, red fruits, rum, herbal hops, lager yeast and some toasted nuts. Dry and bitter aftertaste, though I don’t feel its 69 IBUs, which would have better balanced this.
Bordering medium body with appropriate carbonation. Alcohol of 11.5% abv is partially felt.
Decent Doppelbock, it is really a mule kick. I wish it had more body to disguise its alcohol and improve drinkability. Not huge complexity either, alcohol caramel-molasses and cinnamon dominates.
