Hazy brown reddish color with a thin head with low retention.
Faint aroma of red fruits, caramels and malt.
Also, light flavor of red fruits, earthy hops and caramel. Mildly dry aftertaste.
Light to watery body and low carbonation with tiny bubbles. A bit acid and sour.
Body and flavor too thin for a Scottish ale. It is a beer made for light beer lovers that may want to have something different but not necessarily a walk on the wild side. For the style, a disaster.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle in historic Colonia, Uruguay.
Appearance: Deep amber whose head dissipates quickly yet leaves nice lace.
Smell: Pungent maltiness and caramel aromas though not that complex.
Taste: Roasted malts and caramel, faint bitterness up front.
Mouthfeel: Crisp, malty and not syrupy. A refreshing light-to-medium-bodied 6.2% ale in a continent of macrolagers.
Overall: The Mastra Red is a welcome change from most Reds in Latin America. Mastra's is a well-crafted light-to-medium-bodied Strong Scotch Ale with deep maltiness and a clean finish.

Got this bottle off the top shelf in a cooler right behind the florescent light of the usa supermercado on Gral Flores St. It was the only bottle of its flavor. Figured it'd be horribly light struck. Upon opening, surprise! no skunk, instead lots of nice hope aroma and a bit of maybe infectoin. Color is very hazy amber brown or v versa. Head flared up and died right down to a faint top. no lace. Flavor was a a bit tart, only a hint of sweetness. There is some hop there, but it's been beat back. Seems a tad watery and feels of forced carbonation. Proly woulda been worse, but for the alcohol. Be nice to try one under better circumstances. Guess the finish is irrelevant.
