From a 355ml bottle. Tasted on 27th august 2010.
This barley wine can be considered one of the best beers in Brazil.
The color is dark brown and have a little white head.
A strong presence of caramel malt aroma mixed with plums and dried fruits.
At the flavor also an intense caramel malt presence with and interesting woody notes.
Reminds me a good port wine.
Medium to full bodied with low carbonation and only a hint of alcohol.
This is a wonderful beer that leaves behind a lot of others from the same style.

From an 11.2 oz. bottle I believe, shared by DoubleJ,
A: Pours a dark brown with considerable clarity. Light tan head.
S: Sweet caramel, molasses English style notes. Hint of orange.
T: Sweet malt for sure with a light oak flavour rounding it out. Notes of triple sec and cherry, no ethanol flavour which was a bit shocking for a 9% ABV barleywine.
M: Medium-bodied making it a bit on the lighter thin end of the style. Smooth, soft on the palate.
D: Nice little beer, reminds me of a young JW Lees to be perfectly honest, it has some real interesting flavours to delve into. Not mind-blowing, but a satisfying beverage.

The first Brazilian made barrel aged beer was made by a collaboration of Biertruppe and Cervejaria Bamberg. This barleywine was aged in oak barrels for 100 days before its sale. Many thanks to sfoley333 for sharing this prestigious Brazilian beer. On to the beer:
Darkened carmel orange colored with a little head retention and legs going for it. The nose is an interesting one, and not just by the barrel aging process. There some moderate intensity of oak, vanilla, and residual sugars, but the surprise is the tint of green tea and citrus which works well.
In the mouth, the beer features a similar taste to the aroma. There's less barrel inflencing the beer, less citrus, more tea, and more residual sugar and malt. One weakness of this beer is the mouthfeel; it's very light in the mouth, not coating like other -bal aged barleywines. The very light carbonation doesn't help thicken things up, but at least it doesn't get in the way of the flavor. That said, the alcohol is hidden well, and it doesn't get old to drink.
The hype over this beer made me believe I was getting a beer that would blow my head. Instead, I look at it as a good beer, and a good first attempt for Brazilians in the category of BABS (Barrel Aged BeerS).
