Got my growler filled yesterday. This is an unfiltered dunkel beer from the brewery.
Pours a murky mahagony color, nice lightly brown tan colored head. Good carbonation, a bit more cloudier and this could pass for a Dunkelweizen
Smells of carmelized sugar, malt, pepper, molasses, a mustiness akin to a stck of fall leaves. oakiness, and a nice dark bread undertone. Just what Im looking for on this cold rainy Halloween.
Taste is suprisingly sharper than expected. Whereas Dunkels tend to be a monotonous sweet-malty brown sugar flavor to me personally, this beer has nice hints of peppery spice as well as a good carbonated prickling finish that cuts throught residual sweetness nicely. The sweet maltiness is a smalll background support for cracked pepper, dark bread, and spiciness top build on.
Body is medium, but finish is light and spicy. My favorite at the Brewery is the superb Helles, but this brew is very good and a great fall sipper. The falovr is slightly different everytime I go to the pub, and I think I hit the perfect mix this time!.
