First had: on tap at Johnny Brenda's, Philly, PA

This is listed as a retired brew, but I had it on tap at Johnny Brenda's in the spring of '09, so I guess they bring it back once in a while. Pretty standard IPA. Pours a clear amber with some noticeable carbonation, and a small layer of white head. Piney hops in the aroma with a pretty good balance of sweet malts. More pine and wood in the taste, some light citrus coming through, with a subtle malt background. Light-medium mouthfeel, nice and drinkable. Typical for an IPA, nothing too distinctive, but still nice.

Enjoyed at the 2006 IPA Project in December. Clear amber/orange with good retention and solid lacing. Floral orange blossom aroma with some grapefruit. Strong bitterness with lots of grapefruit and orange hop flavour with some earthy notes. Malt sweetness stayed just underneath the hops throughout. Light lingering bitterness. Creamy texture with moderate carbonation. Quite nice. This isn't a bad hop for a single varietal beer.

Presented as a crystal clear amber colored beer with modest white head. Smell is suprisingly light with only a slight presence of hops noted. Taste is a pleasant combinstion of malt and hops with neither making much of their presence known. Finishes very refreshing. A beer with good drinkability that hides its 7% alcohol very well.

On tap at UJ's on the Manatawny the other night. Beer poured an amber color with only a slight head around the ring of the glass. The aroma is woody and piney. The taste is more of the same but a bit to woody for my taste. I found the body to be medium but a bit too woody and / or piney for me.

Nearly perfect pour of a sturdy amber vitreous offerong topped with a beige heavy craggy head cap that leaves a lattice lace in the glass, from on tap at Royersford.

Aroma is piney, with delicate fruit like suggestions of cherry and berry.

First swigs: A cherry floral comination that leads to a piney dry wood with a dryness of hops that is not quite the driest feel but close to it with a residual sugar aftertaste. Remins me of cascade but with more depth and more berry notes.

Feel is medium bodied and cushioned with a soft carbonation.

Last swigs: A berry & cherry & wood IPA. Darn! I dig these varietal IPA the more that they are offered. Nice interesting choice of hop! Is it really 7% ABV 'cos if it is, then I'm in trouble!

Beer is good. Happy hoppy Newport IPA beering.

Not my favorite of the varietal series. A nice pine cone and deep woody nose tops a smallish head on top of a light/medium copper body. Lacing sticks around and mouthfeel is nice all the way through, even though a bit dry at times. The taste is a bit brash however. A really rough cloying on the palate that is just a bit too heavy than some of the more powerful yet drinkable offerings from this series.

This beer came a glowing dark orange and amber with a thin film that fell away pretty quickly.

Smelled of cedar and the dry elements of pineapple with a bit of sweet cherries and the slightest hint of cough syrup.

Tasted of dry crisp pine with a smooth orange zest that fell to a light cherry and oat malt base. Finished about as dry as it could without being unpleasant.

The mouth feel was light and almost creamy with a very passive carbonation.

It took me a while to finish this one as the hop profile was over the top, but that seems to be SlyFox’s intention with the IPA projects, so I’ll just consider myself schooled on Newport.

Appears a light amber with a small white that slowly fades. Scattered lacing is left around the sides of the glass.
Smell is of woody hops, hard candy, caramel, English tea...sort of reminds me of an ESB.
Taste is of wood notes, earthy, tea bitterness, mild pine, & a touch of grapefruit in the finish.
Mouthfeel is slightly fizzy with the bitterness and light woodyness battling it out.
