(vul’·pew·lin) : of, relating to, or resembling a fox-like creature grown entirely out of hop bines.
Hop farmers of the Pacific Northwest have reported sightings of an ethereal creature romping around their hop yards under the full moon. The Vulpes Lupulus has been described as a creature made from the bines themselves, causing the plants to wave and dance in the moonlight even when no breeze is present. Nonbelievers say it’s nothing more than a common fox out on her nightly hunt. While no hard evidence has been documented, we happen to believe in these wild tales.
Our fabled brew embodies the spirit of this crafty hop farm dweller. Bursting with Citra, Mosaic, Cascade, and Centennial, Vulpulin IPA grabs your senses and takes you on a midnight frolic through the hops yards.

The dark golden, almost copper colored, beer pours out into a Duvel glass with a 1/2” fluffy off-white head the at recedes slowly but visibly to leave a thin layer of irregular foam on the liquid and a ring of lacing around the glass along with some legs and patches of lacing. Sipping creates lots of small scattered specks, patches and legs of lacing.
The aromas include a hint of pine resin, some tropical fruits along with a light bit of toasted bread from the malt. The fruits seem to include some mango, a bit of tangerine and some orange zest. Over time the aromas seem to trade places as if unable to decide who is supposed to have center stage.
The flavors are fairly complex in that there are several things going on here. There’s a bit of pine resin along with some tropical fruits such as the mango, the tangerine and some orange zest. As expected in a beer that is about the hops, there is some light sweetness from the malt that is noticeable but not prominent and while the hop bitterness is clearly present it remains as part of the profile that does not dominate or conceal the other flavors.
The mouthfeel is medium bodied and lightly prickly with some persistent but moderate carbonation. The finish takes place in the front and middle of the palate and begins as the various fruit flavors and sweetness begin to mostly recede leaving a dry, bitter, but very lightly fruity ending that has hints of mango and tangerine coloring the bitterness but not interfering with it. There is not much impact on the back of the palate except from the fruit flavors and sweetness when taking another sip .
Overall this is a well made beer that I’m enjoying and will probably have again. The flavor profile allows the hop flavors to show but without strong bitterness. The malt sweetness is a counterbalance to the dry moderate bitterness. I recommend giving it a try if you find it fairly fresh.

8/18/24, at the brewery. Lovely!...location!
Aroma... Cotton candy, sweet juicy orange, papaya, and maybe even a hint of coconut.
Mouthfeel... Soft like velvet. Wow nice
Taste... Now we're onto something! Perfectly bitter and piney, no sweetness. Oh my, so good!

12 oz can from a Giant market in S.E Pennsylvania.
Appearance. Amber colored body with an excellent off-white head.
Mouthfeel. Medium-high but soft carbonation in a full body.
This has typical levels of bitterness and hop notes, but a high amount of medium dark malts for the style.
Overall. An excellent example of a relatively low ABV yet malty IPA.

This beer has a hazy apricot color with a significant head. The aroma is very pleasant; sweet, hoppy and fruity. It has a very dry taste, which is surprising given the sweet aroma, but the dryness matches well with the bitterness and fresh hop flavor.

Sly Fox Brewing Co. "Haze Fix IPA"
12 fl. oz. can coded "BEST BY:07/17/22 #32 09:11" and sampled on 05/25/22
$21.19/12-pk @ Javies Beverage, Philadelphia, PA
Notes via stream of consciousness: Vulpulin is brewed with Citra, Mosaic, Cascade, and Centennial. It's poured a hazy deep golden/amber colored body beneath a finger's width of yellowed off-white foam. The aroma isn't that bright but it offers notes of orange, mango, and pine. On to the taste... the malt is lightly sweetish and bready, and the same hop notes remain with a little bit more girth. Is there anything else? ... ... It's a little floral, earthy, grapefruit-like, and even peachy. A solid bitterness backs it and it finishes dry, citrusy, earthy, and lightly piney. In the mouth it's medium bodied and crisp. All in all it's a decent IPA but it could use a little more hops, at least in the aroma.

Pours a beautiful pale copper with a frothy cream colored head that hangs around.
Citrus - orange, grapefruit - resinous pine, mango and star fruit.
Taste is sweet tropical fruit balanced by bitter citrus all overwhelmed by a resinous pine flavor. Thick and creamy mouth feel.

From a 12oz can dated best by 8/5/21 into my trusty Fenway Park pint glass (black printing). Props to the can art which reminds me a little bit of the Squonk from Genesis.
Pours a murky, not quite opaque, yellowish orangish brown with about two fingers of white head. Decent retention, light lacing.
Smells of oranges, citrus peel, pine, resin and a bit of pineapple.
Taste is a little muddled not revealing anything distinct. Definitely some earthy, piney dankness. Some bitter citrus peel in there.
This drinks easy enough. Softer mouthfeel for the amount of pine in the taste-just a little bit of stickiness. Bitter aftertaste. Medium bodied.
This isn't a bad beer just not what I was expecting I guess. This is labeled a "Tropical IPA". On the nose a bit, not so much on the taste.

This is a very good straight up IPA with all my favorite hops like Citra, Mosaic and Cascade. 6% alcohol which is a nice medium amount, but still has great flavor. Not too bitter.
