Somewhat cloudy appearance, orange honey color, luscious thick white head. Spicy and citrusy, some grapefruit in the nose, along with a musty/old laundry smell. The taste is bitter upfront, again a musty flavor backed by citrus. Somewhat creamy mouthfeel, finishes bitter.

From Sly Fox: An IPA Project 2006 beer. Primarily a bittering hop, Nugget is grown in both the US and Germany. This hop is noted for its strong aroma profile when used in significant quantities as it will be in this varietal brew.

A little on the cloudy side compared to some of the other IPA Project 2006 beers, but it still has a nice orange colour. The nugget hops seemed to give it more of a tangerine character rather than grapefruit. Otherwise, pretty similar to the other beers in this series. I did like the beer and the hop used - I wouldn't mind trying it out myself in a homebrew sometime.

It pours a cloudy golden amber, hinting toward orange, and with a finger of off-white head that sits low in a flash. Lacing is frilly and fine.

The aroma brings a decided grapefruit hop presence to the fore, with lesser notes of pine, and a malt background of caramel and baked bread.

Upon sipping, there's a mild and brief sweetness consisting of caramel and some earthy dough that is undone by a poignant grapefruit and pine resin hop character. A very soft yeast presence yields to a faded mandarin orange malt resurrection before a finish that lingers quite dryly and with a fair mesure of bitterness. It's not objectionable by a long stretch, but it moves rather quickly and in a somewhat shallow manner.

Between light and medium bodied, the malt is a bit creamy, and the hops have a midly oily feel.

As mentioned there's nothing here to dislike, but neither is there anything here to celebrate. While north of mediocre, the flavor kind of zooms by, and without much depth. Still, the crisp endnote makes it reasonably refreshing and drinkable. So as a serial beer, it might not be something I'd rush to in the future, but at least I can say I tried it.

I found this on-tap at the brew pub.

This beer came a straw and amber color with a slight film of egg-shell white.

Smells of sweet pasty flour and a Jolly Rancher peach that doesn’t seem at all out of place. There’s also a lingering pine dryness hiding in the background that I can feel subtly stinging at my nose.

Tastes of sweet oranges a light malts at first, but falls into a dry sappy, woody pine that picks up some oak and a wicked white fluffy grapefruit skin in the finish. Whew!

The mouth feel was light to medium bodied with a light tingly carbonation.

This one was a little on the dry side, but I suppose discovering this is the entire purpose of the IPA project. Lesson learned.
