Pours a light golden color with a short lived head. Aroma of phenolic Belgian yeast and grains, detecting wheat. In the taste, sugary malt, raw coarse grains and a candy like yeast note. Light herbal hops dial in with a fairly hefty bitterness. Medium bodied, medium-high carbonation and slightly dry. The finish carries Belgian yeast and hop bitterness in a refreshing fashion. Overall, this is a very solidly crafted Belgian ale. Enjoyable.

Enjoyed a five beer sampler of 4 oz, Michelin Man style glasses, beers. This was the first one consumed.

Golden, very thin head.

Light spice Belgian aroma. Very clean and light. Hard to force a head on this one...even with lots of swirling.

Unique spiceness which may be attributed more to the malt sweetness.

A very nice, sessionable Belgian ale.

Pours light amber and clear with a small head. The aroma is spicy, but with a clean, crisp malt character. The flavor is clean and malty, like a good American pale ale, but with a light coat of that spicy, phenolic flavor that says Belgian Ale. The mouthfeel is thin and pleasant.

This is probably not the Belgian Pale Ale for purists, but for an American Pale Ale lover looking for something a little different, this is an excellent choice. It would be a good entry beer for those nervous about getting into the Belgian world.

And even for hard core Beer geeks, this is a great session pale ale.

On-tap at the brewpub with a plate of chicken torandos. Had this in the middle of a long bike ride and it really hit the spot. The only thing that set this apart from beer straight out of Belgium is that this tastes so bright and fresh. It reminds me a touch of a lower-alcohol Duvel for the biscuit and bready malt profile. There's also a tasty bite of earthy citrus hops that gives this beer a bitter send off. Definitely try this beer.

A: Poured a bright, clear gold with a compact frothy white head that quickly dissipated leaving little lacing. Visible carbonation was mediurm.

S: The nose yielded a nice sense of citrusy hops and yeastiness of bananas, light lemons and wheat grains.

T: The initial flavor had a light tartness of oranges, bananas, and lemons. There was a crisp nature to the malting with some light candi-sugar notes and pears sneaking through from the yeast. Overall a bright crisp malting with a subtle citrusy hoppiness that was clean and very enjoyable.

M: crisp and lively from the carbonation, tingly on the tongue while finishing dry.

D: Nice drinkability, abv is hardly noticeable while the palate was very crisp, clean and went down effortlessly. Could drink a few of these no problem.

A: Clear bright gold with a very white one finger head with minimal retention and some nice lacing.

S: Spicy yeast scents, lemon, and some breadiness.

T: Clove, banana, coriander, white pepper, lemon zest, and earthy hops. There is a lot of flavor especially for this style.

M: Nice carbination, light to medium body with some bitter feel on the tongue and crisp, clean finish.

D: This is a great alternative to a wit or wheat and a nice lower alcohol alternative to a Saison. This would be great for a summer party/BBQ.

I saw this on the website noted as the 2004 cellared version available now on tap. Having never been to this brewery before of course this sealed the deal and I was off for another beer adventure.

A - not quite golden, not quite brow-gold with a nice 1/4 inch off white head.

S - light sweet malts, belgian candi sugar mixed with an undertone of belgian yeast / funk topped off with a hint of spices.

T - Mildly funky / yeasty spicy with a rounding out of light sweet malts.

M - medium bodied, clean and dry in the finish.

D - a bit underwhelming in some regards, simplistically divine in others. Patiences yields the best reward for this brew. Cold right off the tap and it's too subdued.

Faintly hazy medium gold with a small, white, rapidly diminishing head. The aroma and taste both center around the pleasant, spicy, musty Belgian yeast. Some clove in the aroma along with some fruit and alcohol esters. Taste-wise, lightly sweet malts slowly give way to a grassy hops finish, enticing you with quick flashes of many different flavors. Clove, banana, citrus, grain, pepper, straw, apple…. It has a medium-light body and a lightly dry texture. Pretty good. If my wife wasn’t pregnant I would have brought a growler of this home for her. She would love it.

Appears a transparent light gold with a 1 finger white head of froth that quickly dissolves into a mild cap. Spots of lacing are left around the glass.
Smell is of some musty funk with straw, along with candi sugar, lightly malted barley with a touch of graininess, and minerals. Perhaps a touch of rubber and apple esters?
Taste is of the mentioned aromas with some gentle spicing, sugar, & earthy notes.
Mouthfeel is that of a medium bodied with sweetness up front. Gentle hopping compliments the sweetness up front with grassy and herbal notes.

It pours a crystal clear gold, like an ingot from Goldfinger. A finger of white head dwindles soon to fine frothy webs. Flares of lacing spot the glass.

In the aroma, a light grain sweetness couples with bananas, clove, and an underlying doughiness. A mild citrus note plays quietly with a thin vaopr of alcohol.

Upon sipping, the intial toasted malt sweetness backs off to give some leeway to bananas and berries, which in turn drop quickly to a grassy, vague spiciness. A warm alcohol current slips through along with a general earthiness. The finish is a rather abrupt cessation of all else, in deference to a stab of bitterness fades to a mild but crisp dryness. While interesting in its way, it's hasty, mildly stuttering, and also pretty indistinct in character.

Medium bodied, it's fairly carbonated and enlivened on the palate, sliding and popping along slowly.

I did have high hopes, and while they weren't exactly dashed, they were not especially buoyed either. It's very, truly pretty, but the flavor just doesn't mesh and blend as seamlessly as most Sly Fox beers seem to. Don't get me wrong, it's reasonably tasty, on the surface, and fairly enjoyable, and the whole does go down drinkably well, but it's not memorable or even satiating. But hey, not every beer is going to be a masterpiece. I may not get another growler, but finishing this one won't be the worst chore.

12 oz glass on tap at the Phoenixville location. The beer poured a strong golden color with a very slim off white head. The aroma was a pleasant mix of spice and a bit sweet with some yeast notes thrown in for good measure. In my frist taste I got some Belgian cany sugar and some citrus notes. Yum. This beer is very drinkable with no noticable alcohol taste but it is definitely there. If I didn't want to same a few other beers on this trip I could have easily stayed with this beer all night.

Clear, deep gold colour. Unfortunately, my glass was poured with no head, but a thin skim of foam appeared after agitation. Sweet aroma with some clove and a mild pear fruitiness. Definite apple juice as it warms. The same fruitiness is in the flavour and the finish is mildly spicy. Bitterness is very low, clove and banana carry through to the end. Medium bodied with low carbonation. There's a hint of slickness to the texture, quite nice. Quite decent. My first beer during my inaugural session at the Sly Fox.
