Draught in Phoenixville: This one pours a slightly hazy, orangish color. It has a small off white head that leaves some lacing. It has a lighter aroma. Mainly piney and citrus hops come through. Faint malts in the background. This has a nice flavor. Fair amount of malts in the background, and a somewhat bitter taste. Mainly pine notes, with a touch of spices. Nice.

2009 Hop Project Beer.

A: Crystal clear amber body. Thin-ish off-white head. Spotty skim left after the head died down. Sporadic lacing.

S: Soft citric hops. Mostly lemon and orange notes. Bready and caramel malts are noticeable.

T: Lemon and orange bitterness. Slightly spicy underbelly. Balanced by a healthy dose of soft bready and caramel malts.

M: Smooth bodied. Light-medium in weight. Healthy bitter bite that lingers just slightly.

D: A bit too much malt, and not enough hop flavoring for my liking. My #8 of the 11 single-hop hop project brews.

Pours clear copper with short lived small head. Smell is earthy. Flavor is very earthy, grassy dirt, hay, freshly plowed field. It hints of Clover and dandelions. The bitterness is slight and the mouthfeel is thin, but it works. This is a delicious and interesting beer.

Growler from Bellport Beer & Soda. Pours a clear light brown/orange with a small, thick white head. Aroma of bready, doughy malts and sweet fruits. Flavor is also sweet and quite malty. Not very hoppy maybe a touch of spices in the finish. Definitely a solid session beer.

A - Poured with an orange off white head...great lacing

S - The hops are present...some caramel/toffee notes as well

T - This is an interesting starts off almost like a hefe...strong on the orange peel and spices...after they go away the hops come into play...sweet tasting hops

M - Medium bodied...smooth

D - As I was pretty interesting...I sampled two of them and was pretty happy...I don't know if I could session with this one

On tap at The Ginger Man. Light orange body colour, lots of lace and fluffy white head. Served almost room temperature, which may not have workerd. A tad orange in flavour, along with caramel, I do not know if anyone has gotten this hop right, flavour and all-this was dull. Not too drinkable.

Tasted second in a plastic sampler cup as part of a Sly Fox tasting at Bierkraft in Brooklyn.

A--Very well done in that it isn't too dark. Many American PAs are nearly orange, and this was only a shade darker gold than the Helles Lager, which we tasted first. Firm creamy off-white head even in the little robitussin cup.

S--Strong hop presence. Not resinous at all, but rather with waves of floral notes floating up. Really nice for a pale ale, and in back you can get some barley, too. Balance is evident even in the nose.

T--Onrush of more flowers and faint tanginess of grapefruit, very faint, that gives way to a sturdy grain bill. Firm malt backbone on this, which I appreciate. Definitely more on the British end of the spectrum in terms of the style interpretation. The only bitch I have were the diacetyls. There was some pop-secret at the end that ruined the chance for a bittering finish.

M&D--Mouthfeel was fine, if a bit acrid at points, and the drinkability only took a hit because of that finish on the flavor profile.

For a PA from PA, I'm still reaching for a Troegs first.

Sly Fox- Liberty

On tap at Isaac Newton's.

A- Clear golden amber red with a small thin foamy head.
S- Light sweet candy sugar with a light dose of caramel and pine hops.
T- Moderately sweet caramel malt with a touch of bread crust graininess. Nice juicy pine hop transition in the back half.
M- Crisp maltiness that is slightly subdoed but still flavorful. Sweet malt present throughout and a juicy hop finish.

Overall- Very nice sessionable Pale Ale. A wee bit lighter than expected but chock full of flavor and worthy.

On tap at Capone's.

Poured a medium and clear amber color with an averaged sized off white head. Aromas of stronger floralness with some toasted caramel. Tastes were also floral, caramel, toasted nuts, and lighter spices.

Crystal clear and amber with a moderately dense cap of off-white bubbles. Soapy lacing, very good head retention. The aroma was a combination of spicy and fruity hops, mild citrus, faint bready malt, quite fragrant. Soft bitterness up front, but this grew in the finish. It started off quite spicy, then lemon and fruit mid-palate, with hop spice kicking in again towards the end and lingering for quite a while. Sweetness was a bit of caramel and malt character, just enough for balance. Light to medium bodied, average carbonation, faint dryness. I quite liked this entry in this year's Hop Project. It started like a nicely balanced pale ale and finished more like an IPA.
